Manufacturer Warranty - What It Actually Covers
Shingle material defects: cracking, premature granule loss, manufacturing flaws. Doesn't cover wear and tear, wind damage, or installation errors.
Owens Corning Lifetime is the strongest tier. Requires registration by a Platinum Preferred Contractor at install time.
Labor Warranty - What It Actually Covers
Installation defects: nail placement, flashing seams, valley work, ventilation balance. Doesn't cover the shingles themselves (that's the manufacturer side).

Transferability
Both warranties transfer once to a new owner when you sell. Some manufacturers charge a $50-$100 transfer fee.
