Vinyl siding installation in New Jersey runs roughly $4 to $9 per square foot installed in 2026 for standard architectural-grade vinyl on a typical residential home. A 2,000 sq ft exterior wall area comes out around $8,000 to $18,000 for a full installation including tear-off, house wrap, trim, and starter strips. Premium insulated vinyl pushes that range to $10-13 per square foot. Coastal homes near the shore add 5-10 percent for upgraded fasteners and trim. This guide covers what drives vinyl siding cost, what gauge actually matters, how vinyl compares to fiber cement and James Hardie, and where homeowners save or overspend on a siding project. What Drives Vinyl Siding Cost

  • House size measured in square feet of exterior wall (not floor area). A 2,000 sq ft home is typically 1,800-2,400 sq ft of wall.
  • Tear-off complexity - removing existing siding adds $1-2 per sq ft.
  • Vinyl gauge - .040 (standard), .044 (premium), .046 (insulated). Higher gauge = thicker, more durable.
  • Trim and accents - shake or board-and-batten accent panels, custom trim around windows.
  • Underlayment - house wrap (Tyvek) and rigid foam insulation if upgrading thermal performance.
  • Coastal exposure - stainless or coated fasteners on homes within a mile of the shore.

Vinyl Gauge - What Actually Matters

Gauge is the thickness of the vinyl. Builder-grade (.040) is the cheap stuff that warps and fades. Standard architectural (.042-.044) is the realistic baseline for a long-term install. Premium (.046+) is what you want on coastal homes or anywhere with high wind exposure.

Insulated vinyl (sometimes called "foam-backed") adds a layer of rigid foam to the back of each panel. It's stiffer, dampens sound, and adds R-value. It also costs 30-40 percent more than non-insulated.

We typically recommend .044 standard or .046 premium for Jersey Shore homes. Builder-grade saves 10-15 percent up front and costs you in 8-10 years when it warps.

Most of the warping and fading complaints we see on vinyl siding are from .040 builder-grade installs done 8-12 years back. The product wasn't designed for the weather it ended up in. Going up to .044 or .046 once is cheaper than residing twice. We don't push the most expensive option; we push the right gauge for the exposure. On a typical Brick Township home, .044 with house wrap is usually the sweet spot.

Full-House vs Partial Replacement

Full-house siding: $8,000 to $20,000 typically. Best value because labor scales well across the whole job, and color matching isn't an issue.

Partial replacement (one or two walls): $2,500 to $7,000. Color match is the big risk - vinyl fades over time, so a perfect color match to existing siding is rarely possible after 5+ years. We can come close but not exact.

Storm-damaged section repair: $800 to $3,000 typically, often filed under insurance. We document the damage with photos and a written report.

Vinyl vs Fiber Cement vs James Hardie

We install all three depending on the project. For a typical Jersey Shore home where homeowner prefers low maintenance, vinyl is usually the right call. For a higher-end home where aesthetics drive the choice, fiber cement or Hardie wins. See our siding repair service page for current options.

  • Vinyl - $4-9/sq ft installed. Best on price and maintenance (no painting). Limited on premium aesthetics.
  • Fiber cement (LP SmartSide) - $8-14/sq ft installed. Better on aesthetics and durability. Needs paint maintenance every 8-12 years.
  • James Hardie - $10-16/sq ft installed. Top tier on aesthetics, durability, and warranty. Highest cost. Comes pre-finished in some lines.

Financing and Warranty

Financing options are available - ask about financing during your free inspection if you'd rather spread the cost. See /financing for current programs.

Most vinyl siding products carry a manufacturer warranty (typically 25-50 years on premium lines, lifetime on Hardie). Our 30-year Quality Roof Pros labor warranty covers the installation work itself.

For more on warranty mechanics, see the NAHB consumer guide on home product warranties for context on how manufacturer + labor warranties stack.
