Conical Roofs and Towers - Installation Challenges and Unique Tips
By Charles Kearns | Owner, Quality Roof Pros | Brick Township NJ | ~6 min read
Conical and tower roofs are 2-3x more labor-intensive than standard slopes because every shingle course has to be tapered to fit the conical geometry. Cost on a typical residential turret runs $4,000-$12,000 standalone or $1,500-$3,500 added to a full roof replacement. The right contractor matters more than usual - poorly cut tapers leave gaps that leak. (732) 770-3867 for a free assessment.

Why Tapered Cuts Matter
Each shingle course on a cone has to be cut narrower than the one below it. Done right, the courses align and water sheds cleanly. Done wrong, gaps appear at every seam.
Underlayment and Flashing
Conical roofs need full ice and water shield coverage (not just at eaves) because the geometry concentrates water flow.
Flashing where the cone meets the main roof is where most leaks start.
