When Tarping Is the Right Call
Active leak with rain still in the forecast. Tree or branch on the roof. Significant wind damage with shingles missing or lifted.
If conditions are calm and the damage is small, we sometimes do a quick patch instead of a full tarp.
How the Tarp Goes On
Heavy-duty tarp sized to cover the damage plus 3-4 feet of overlap. Anchored at the ridge with 1x4 furring strips and cap nails. Edges weighted or strapped.
Process takes 30-90 minutes depending on access and roof complexity.
How Long a Tarp Holds
2-6 weeks safely. Beyond that, UV breaks down the material and the anchor points start failing.
